CAUSATION
Did anyone see the keynote speaker at MINEXCHANGE 2024? On another note altogether, I really like this graphic. It shows a comparison of chocolate consumption per capita to the number of Nobel Laureates per 10 million people in each country. Even though the coefficient of correlation isn’t great (r^2 = 0.626), it really looks like there is a relationship. Wouldn’t it be great if a country could increase the number of Nobel prizes it is awarded simply by upping the national chocolate consumption? Maybe start a mandatory chocolate intake doctrine? Distribute free government chocolate. Guess what? Just because there is a correlation doesn’t mean there is causation. This graphic is bull$h!t. Just because a graph seems to present compelling information doesn’t mean that the information is reliable. Also, please pass the chocolate.
